Codipro, service partner in the preparation of the telecommunications infrastructure for the Olympic basketball qualifying tournament

The Olympic Basketball Qualifying Tournament was the Spanish national basketball team’s last opportunity to fight for a place in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. In this edition, FIBA awarded the concession to the bid presented by the Spanish Basketball Federation and the Generalitat Valenciana, with the city of Valencia selected as one of the four host venues.

The challenge: infrastructure for an international event

The national operator Avatel Telecom, selected by FIBA as the event’s communications service provider, chooses Codipro as a strategic partner to help establish an infrastructure that meets the demanding requirements of an international event of this scale.

The Seville-based company provided equipment for firewall, switching, routing and Wi-Fi access point services, among others, including devices from manufacturers such as Huawei, Mikrotik and Cambium Networks.

The solution and results

To adapt the infrastructure of this project to the design requirements set by the client, Codipro’s technical engineering team created a simulated scenario in the laboratory, identical to the one used during the event. This scenario included full infrastructure redundancy, ensuring optimal service throughout the event.

The infrastructure was then subjected to different tests to verify the consistency of the network, generating simulated critical failures that were successfully overcome every time with outstanding results.

During the event, significant usage levels and high connection rates were recorded without incidents, demonstrating the success and effectiveness of the infrastructure.

Finally, the Spanish national team closed the Olympic qualifying stage in Valencia with a convincing victory against the Bahamas, thus securing its place at Paris 2024.
